Cancelling Covered California?

By on | 3 Comments

Question: If I wish to leave Covered California all together, can I use the terminate plan button? I have read that it is just for changing from one plan to another in the CC system.

Answer: Using the "terminate plan button" on your Covered California is all you need to do to cancel your coverage at Covered California. But don't stop there, call your insurance company and cancel with them too. DO NOT just stop paying your premium or you will create a mess that takes a long time to fix.

I need to cancel my Molina policy. I called them, they say I must go through Covered California. My ex-bookkeeper set up my account & I have no idea what she used as passwords etc., nor do I have a policy #. All I have is my social security & current address. What do you suggest?

I would definitely recommend calling the insurance company to confirm. I had a client cancel his coverage when I enrolled him in a Medicare Advantage plan in April, and he just figured out the insurance company continued to deduct his premiums from his bank account. Poor communication and follow through from Covered CA … because it probably means they paid the insurance company APTCs too.
