Question: The Covered California online renewal process was convoluted and did not provide me with an acknowledgement that I have renewed successfully. How do I know if I have renewed my coverage? FYI, I worked for 30 years as a Computer Scientist and still struggled with the Covered California web site.
Answer: Here is how your Covered California homepage looks if you have completed your renewal Sample CC Home Page.pdf. Notice that all of the sections are checked, including Enrollment. If you click on the Summary checkbox, then from the next page, select Current Enrollment, you get a detailed summary of your coverage. Your 30-years of experience in Computer Science did not include government work apparently. It's a "different" world.
Bob, You are renewed.
In a follow-up to my original post I followed Phil’s advice: “If you click on the Summary checkbox, then from the next page, select Current Enrollment, you get a detailed summary of your coverage”
Covered CA states says in the summary “Congratulations! You are one step closer to getting quality healthcare through Covered California. Your information will be sent to your health and dental plan choices listed below. Send your initial (first) payment by the deadline so your plan can start on the expected start date.”
So, I still don’t know if I’m in or not and this was just a straight renewal. I did just receive a letter from CoveredCA saying that they now require proof-of-income. I uploaded my POI which is sitting in my folder on top of last years POI that has not been touched. I called Covered CA and the agent also did not understand what was going on. I tweeted Covered CA and they tweeted back via a DM that they would escalate my case to a resolution specialist. I have not heard back from anyone. Phil, Is there something I’m missing here?
I applied for CoverCA today. In the process, it told me that my son is qualified for Medi-Cal and gave me a confirmation PDF. I called the Medi-Cal office afterward just to confirm but was told that what I got is just an acknowledgment of the Medi-Cal application and the official determination of eligibility would take up to 45 days. So who’s right?
List below is what is stated in my Medi-Cal Eligibility Confirmation that I got from Cover CA:
You can start using Medi-Cal for health care services today. Bring a printout of this Eligibility Confirmation to your doctor or health care provider. They will be able to use the information below to verify your eligibility for medical and dental expenses.
You will receive a plastic Benefits Identification Card (BIC) in the mail in approximately 10 days. Once received, you should show your BIC card to your doctor instead of this printout
The CoveredCA enrollment site is intended to look pretty, it is not designed to be user-friendly. There are many clunky facets that we agents have complained about for the past two years which have never been changed to make things easier for all. The form could be streamlined in a number of simple ways and made much easier to use/navigate.
