Can I File an Extension if I Received Subsidies?

By on | 3 Comments

Question: If you have already been getting the credit, is the 4/15 2014 tax filing deadline firm that covered ca makes you agree to, or is an extension allowed until 10/15/15? what is the final consensus? thanks

Answer: You must pay your 2014 taxes by 4/15/15 along with your application for an extension. In other words, even though you are filing for an extension, you still have to pay your taxes on April 15th.

Hank is correct.

Tax extension is certainly possible and available, yet taxes are due now.

I have confirmed this too, since my original post. Extensions are permitted, yet extension must be filed by April 15th (tax day).

Additionally, the IRS will be issuing additional guidance (at some future time) with regard to penalty relief for those who file an extension but not pay all taxes where tax filing was late (extended) due to issues with one’s 1095-A Form.

I don’t have much more on this as of now.

Michael Freedman’s comment makes sense. the answer to Phil’s question does not. The extension allows the tax payer to delay, by up to six months, filing a 1040 but any taxes due must be paid by April 15th to avoid a possible penalty as well as interest.

My understanding is that a tax return is a tax return, and so an extension can be filed within the additional six months of extension as provided until October 15th of the same year.

The ‘Extension’ itself must be filed by April 15th.
