Final Version of Form 8962?

By on | 7 Comments

Question: Phil, you posted a draft version of the IRS Form 8962 a while back. Do you have a download for the final version?

Answer: Yes. Download IRS Form 8962.

When you file your federal taxes, you or your tax preparer will use the information on Form 1095-A to complete IRS Form 8962. You will use Form 8962 to tell the IRS how much premium assistance was paid to your health plan on your behalf in 2014. Using the form you will:

  1. Calculate the total amount of premium tax credit that you are allowed to claim based on your coverage, income and family size.
  2. Compare the amount of premium assistance that was paid in advance on your behalf to the premium tax credit.
  3. Determine the amount by which the premium tax credit exceeds the amount of premium assistance received, if any. And, claim it as the net premium tax credit on your federal income tax return.
  4. Determine the amount by which your premium assistance received exceeds your premium tax credit, if any, and report it on your federal income tax return. You will have to repay some or all of this excess amount.

Never have received anything for my taxes have to file extension. Can you help me

Bret-I understand how you feel. I have been e-mailing one of the tax preparers at H&R Block online. They are hoping this fix publication 974 which form 8962 calculates the PTC will be done by the weekend. I have called the IRS three times, they know nothing.

Barbara, I would like more info on what H&R Block told you. I am in the same situation and all they tell me is to call the IRS. I don’t find that particularly helpful. I could print and mail the return but I don’t want it held up by the IRS either.

Publication 974 refers to anyone having a change in their insurance status during 2014. Issue is calculating when you.dropped ACA coverage form 8962 and how it calulates the PTC. Spoke with H&R block hope to finalize by end of Feb. makes this bad for some taxpayers who are trying to get this done…would have been nice to have figured this out before tax time.

Phil, I’m using H&R Block online

Barbara, thanks for the update. That is news to me. Fortunately, the portion of ACA enrollees that includes “someone in the tax household is 65 or over during the tax year” is relatively small. What tax prep software are you using?

i’m processing my taxes electionically, however it has been put on hold here is the reason: “at the time of this release IRS instructions were not avaliable for special situation when someone in the tax household is 65 or over durnig the tax year and form 8962 calculates PTC”. IRS is still working to finalize some tax forms and schedules,,,,do you know about this form or any update info.
