Shop and Compare Tool?

Question: When will the CoveredCa.com “Shop and Compare” tool be quoting 2015 rates.

Answer: It’s up and running today. A quick test indicates that it’s accurately quoting 2015 rates.

Agents and Consumers BEWARE!!

The Covered California website has a BIG PROBLEM … the income calculator is NOT calculating Cost Sharing Reduction eligibilities correctly!!

For example, I attempted to renew a client’s coverage for 2015, making a slight change in income today for 2015. In 2014, the client’s household has been enrolled in a Silver 94 plan. With 2015 income still in the sub-150% FPL band, the eligibility was calculated as Silver 87. So I did not complete the reenrollment/renewal process.

Additionally, when reporting monthly income, I discovered that entering any “Date first paid” other than 01-01-2014 (possibly up to as late as 01-15-2014) will result in an incorrect annual income calculation on the Income Summary page of the online app (the calculator takes the remaining number of months to December 31 and uses that value to determine annual income).

So with only two days to Open Enrollment, the software geniuses at CoveredCA are not likely to be able to solve the issue and deploy a corrective update/software patch.

You should all have a copy of the 2014 FPL chart handy to be able to determine where a household’s annual income is between 100% and 400% of FPL.

If you need one, or would like my Excel FPL calculator (just plug in weekly, biweekly, or monthly income and household size and it will tell you exactly what the % of FPL is) that I created and have been successfully using since last year’s open enrollment, just sent me an email and I will send you a copy of either or both.

Actually, as of today, 11-8-2014, the Coveredca.com website is not accurately quoting the 2015 rates. It makes no mention of the Kaiser HSA Bronze plan the should be available through CoveredCA. The same thing happened last year until a few days after the open enrollment period began.
