Question: If after I completed my application and my QHP has been effectuated, I now need to change an incorrect birth date. Do I make that change through Covered California or through the QHP. If Covered California what is the process?

Answer: To change a date-of-birth go to Covered California not the carrier. Login into your CC account and make the change yourself, have your broker do it, or call CC at 800-300-1506.


I signed up with a typo in the birth date (off by one day). Coverage started May 1. As I was not able to sign into Anthem I contacted them and they told me I was using the wrong date but could not change it. I then contacted CC in June. After several calls, and finally reaching the IT support person, I was told they successfully changed it in their system and that they would contact Anthem. It still remains incorrect on my CC profile info and Anthem has not changed the date. It is now causing billing problems as my birthdate doesn’t match my account.

Is there a special number or dept. at CC to help with such issues? Thanks!

Wrong Answer Phil. To make a change on the birthday no the member nor the broker nor the CSR at CC can dot it. It has to be done by the IT support at CC. Once that is done, the member needs to select the plan again which will have an slight increase in the premium (April 1 there was an increase) KEY, the member needs to process it before the 15 of the month or he/she will stay without insurance for the following month. If no plan is selected the coverage will not be in place.
