Plan Change Due to Reduced Income?

By on | 3 Comments

Question: After enrolling in Brnoze plan on 3/14/2014, my income dropped down much in 8/14/2014. 1)What proof of income like Bank statement for that month to be submitted? 2)Only silver plan is to be selected for cost sharing? 3)Suppose after 90 days if proof of income could not be shown what happens.? Will the new revised plan be cancelled or will it continue but without subsidy?

Answer: Your change of income can be verified in a number of different ways depending on whether you are an W2 employee or self employed. Covered California can help you with that if you call 800-300-1506. Yes, only the silver plans qualify for cost-sharing reductions. If proof of income to support the change is not supplied within 90 days, the new plan will continue without subsidy and cost-sharing reductions.

I have been on State Disability Income since February of 2014 ($4000.00/month)

I lost my employer insurance in April 2014.

I applied for an ACA insurance policy (Anthem Blue Silver PPO) in February of 2014 (knowing I would lose my employer insurance policy). I stated at the time that my income would be approx. $19000.00/year. I was only able to submit my last employer pay stub of $7200.00 as proof of income (with plans to do consulting work resulting in 19000.00 for the year).

I was told not to include my SDI non taxable income.

I just received a notice from Covered California and Riverside County (MediCal) that I must convert from my Anthem Blue PPO to MediCal.

I do not want to do that because I am happy with the quality of service I am getting from Anthem Blue. I understand that the MediCal programs are inferior in their coverage.

Do I have any recourse?

I get regular email from the SHOP for group stuff ( which I do NOT write) but have not received anything from CoveredCA since April 2014. When I go to website/ Agents section, all the updates/announcements are dated ( meaning old- last from April 2014) there too. Is there anyplace to get uptodate CIA/agent related news and announcements?
