Premium Locked For How Long?

By on | 1 Comment

Question: If I purchased a Covered California health insurance plan for my family that was effective on May 1, 2014, will my premium stay "locked" at this level until May 1, 2015? That is traditionally how my health plans have operated in the past...with 1 Year Guarantees.

Answer: No. The rates for individual health insurance purchased in 2014 will change on January 1, 2015.

? for you on this….if they qualified for a subsidy and their income doesn’t change then come 1/1/2015 their portion of the premium should stay the same since it is based on a percentage on their income and their fpl percentage, correct? The government will have to pay a bigger portion of the premium as we know premiums will increase but the member themselves won’t have to pay that increase, right?
