Will Affidavit for Income Verification Work?

By on | 1 Comment

Question: I have a self-employed client who sent an affidavit for estimated 2014 and CC is still requesting for more "proof". I see a huge problem on the way if this is going to be their regular mode of operation. How in the world will any self-employed person "prove" their estimated income for the year?

Answer: If CC is still requesting more proof, it may simply be due to a recognized glitch in their system and not the fact they find the income affidavit unacceptable. They are making all sorts of unreasonable requests for documentation right now. I would wait a while before submitting anything else.

Although CoveredCA says otherwise, I personally don’t believe any human being is actually looking at submitted documents — not by mail, fax, or online upload. If there were, then three of my clients who continue to be listed as CONTINGENT ELIGIBLE would have been made fully eligible long ago.

This is one of those parts of their system that has the least amount of accountability. I hate spending (cumulative) hours on hold trying to get answers and when I ask for written verification of a CSR’s response, am told, “We are not allowed to send those kinds of emails.” So no one has to be the least bit accountable for what they say or do.
